Week 38-The Race is On

I do feel like we are in a constant race for time.  The school year is winding down, so we are trying to finish up our core subjects. Homeschool group activities are coming to a end.  A lot of our after school activities are wrapping up as well.  However there is a lot happening to bring all this to a close. Monday we did frontier cooking for home ec.  The kids cooked red beans on a camp fire.  We hung Logan and Lillian's birdhouses, Savannah wanted to work on hers some more.  In afternoon school the kids all worked on their last book report of the year. Our 4H chicks are at an ugly stage of feathering out. Tuesday we took a road trip with Meme and Papa.  We went to see great grandma.  The kids call her "Oklahoma Grandma."  She isn't doing well, but it was good to see her.  She showed us her pigs and goats.  The kids were all excited to meet cousins. Week 37-Homeschooling Highlights

This year has been so full of activities. Right now we are in a whirlwind of activities, but the end is in sight! I am so ready to get to stay home in the evenings for awhile! Every morning we are trying to get in some cardio exercise and our prayer journaling time.  We have done well with the prayer journals, not so well with the cardio.  Also, every morning is agri time, tending to our various critters.  Right now we have guinea fowl, laying hens, baby chicks, goats, rabbits, cats, and a dog. (And a fish tank, but I'm not sure that counts😉) We are working to expand into other livestock areas. Monday I decided that for our remaining six weeks of school we would tie our home ec time in with our school lessons.  The girls are studying the westward expansion, and frontier times.  So, we made shortin bread.  We also listened to several versions of the song, "Mama's little baby loves shortin bread" and effectively got it stuck in our brains for the week.
