I do feel like we are in a constant race for time. The school year is winding down, so we are trying to finish up our core subjects. Homeschool group activities are coming to a end. A lot of our after school activities are wrapping up as well. However there is a lot happening to bring all this to a close.
Monday we did frontier cooking for home ec. The kids cooked red beans on a camp fire. We hung Logan and Lillian's birdhouses, Savannah wanted to work on hers some more. In afternoon school the kids all worked on their last book report of the year. Our 4H chicks are at an ugly stage of feathering out.
Tuesday we took a road trip with Meme and Papa. We went to see great grandma. The kids call her "Oklahoma Grandma." She isn't doing well, but it was good to see her. She showed us her pigs and goats. The kids were all excited to meet cousins. We stopped to look at the wild flowers, we saw lots of Indian Paintbrushes. We read the legend about them earlier in the school year.
Wednesday was a full day of school. Everyone is officially finished with thier math curriculum for the year. I picked up some workbooks to work on through the summer. We learned about our major organs in science. Everyone worked more on their book reports. Wednesday afternoon was the official last day of kid's club and youth.
Thursday Logan worked mostly on history. He is trying to get caught up so he doesn't have to do history through the summer. The girls watched some school house rock videos to review some language arts concepts. Thursday afternoon Logan went to Papa's to work on his leather working. The girls went to a 4H sewing workshop and made pillowcases. They all did great, I'm very proud of them.
Friday we started something new. I put the kids all in professional music lessons. Logan will learn to read music and work on technique with both his mandolin and fiddle. Savannah and Lillian will both learn to play the piano. Their first lesson went really well. After that we went to our homeschool group art class then to the library. Archery through the school is officially over for this school year.
Saturday was our 4H meeting. We learned to shoot from the prone position with rifles, cloverbuds did archery, teens did trap.
I feel very blessed that we can offer our children so many outlets. They are never bored, always learning and growing. I am feeling very overwhelmed this year, but that just may be the season we are in for now.
Here are some snap shots of some other things that happened this week.
