Week 12- Hanging in there!

Image
This week I spent quite a bit of time arranging activities for our Homeschool Group and our 4H group.  We also had quite a few out of the house events this week.  We worked hard to keep caught up with our assignments! Bible- We finished the section in Proverbs People on liars. Science-We finished all our book work on botany last week.  So, we gathered seeds from our magnolia tree and our dogwood tree in hopes to start some baby trees in the spring.  We also made plans to clean out the garden and get it ready for winter. Math- Everyone is working steadily in Saxon Math. Read Aloud - The Indian Captive is finally getting a little more interesting.  We finished two chapters this week. History- Logan finished up the first book of Notgrass History From Adam to Us. The girls continued on in American Girl History, we talked a lot about hope chests. Week 11- Phew

Image
Extracurricular activities are in full swing now, and all I can do is try and catch my breath! This week has been a race, and next week isn't looking any better.  It is that season in our lives. We did not get as much book schooling done this week as I would have liked.  We did get a lot of real life learning accomplished, and I feel that is just as important if not more so! So I'm going to start this post with all the really good extra stuff we did this week. Monday Lillian had Taekwondo.  Music was cancelled, so Logan and Dad took her while Savannah, Meme, and I went to our church's annual community wide Ladies Night Out event.  The note left for each of us on our flower vase was "A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it...it just blooms." We had an encouraging night. There were a few days of deer hunting.  Since we process our own meat, there were several days of meat processing.  All good lessons in living on a budget, li...

Week 10- When Mom is Sick

Image
It was a rough week.  My husband and children are wonderful blessings.  I'm very thankful for them all!  I was so sick most of the week.  It started last Friday and lasted until this Thursday.  I think it was a reaction to my flu shot.  I had quit taking them several years back because they make me so sick, but last year we all had the flu, so I toughed it out... barely! This week in school: Bible: We finished our section in Proverbs People on the diligent man and started the section on the wicked man.  Children see things so much clearer than adults do sometimes I believe. Science:. We painted a representation of plant cells.  We also started our Botony folders.  This week the focus has been on plant parts. Math: Lillian had a test in Saxon Math and completed two lessons.  Logan and Savannah each completed three lessons. History: Logan completed two lessons in his history.  He also sat in with the girls in his...

Week 9-Field Trip Week

Image
It's been a smooth sailing week this week.  We learned, we played, we rested, we just had a good calm week. Lillian made these beautiful scarecrows for our driveway. Monday morning we enjoyed our last morning at the lake and we worked on Bible, Science, and our read aloud.  We then packed up and headed home. When we got home we used one of our free monthly magazines for school.  We read through all the trivia, learned about a rock skipping contest, solar and wind energy advances, and we did the Great Central U.S. Shake out to prepare for possible earthquakes.  We also took time to review our fire escape plan and tornado safety. This week in school: Bible- We are still working through Proverbs People.  We have read through several examples of slothfulness and it's consequences. Science- Botany is going well.  We looked under the microscope at several different plant parts.  We also studied the plant cell. Math- Everyone ha...
