Week 37-Homeschooling Highlights

This year has been so full of activities. Right now we are in a whirlwind of activities, but the end is in sight! I am so ready to get to stay home in the evenings for awhile!

Every morning we are trying to get in some cardio exercise and our prayer journaling time.  We have done well with the prayer journals, not so well with the cardio.  Also, every morning is agri time, tending to our various critters.  Right now we have guinea fowl, laying hens, baby chicks, goats, rabbits, cats, and a dog. (And a fish tank, but I'm not sure that counts😉) We are working to expand into other livestock areas.

Monday I decided that for our remaining six weeks of school we would tie our home ec time in with our school lessons.  The girls are studying the westward expansion, and frontier times.  So, we made shortin bread.  We also listened to several versions of the song, "Mama's little baby loves shortin bread" and effectively got it stuck in our brains for the week. In afternoon school we focused on Math, we started science of the human body, and we did origami for art.

Tuesday was a full typical school day.  In the morning we worked on language arts, history, and we started a new creative writing course.  In history the girls learned about the importance of handwriting, and what your handwriting would say about you if there were no photographs.(not to mention Facebook, blogs, selfies) They wrote their initials in a fancy way of thier choice.  We also tried to make homemade tops, but ours didn't work so well.  It's really hard to get them balanced well enough to spin!! In the afternoon we worked on math.

Wednesday all was normal again.  We did listen to an audio reading of the poem "Paul Revere's Ride," thanks to clickschooling. We got all our subjects in. Then the boys had doctor appointments and the girls went to kids club. They made these really cute projects on emotions.  Afterwards the boys went out to eat at a steak house and us girls went to the Chinese place.  It's good to have these girls and boys days sometimes. Minerva has been spending most of her time outside, but Savannah finds her asleep on her bed alot and snapped this cute picture of her.

Thursday's school day ticked right along with nothing extraordinary. We once again finished all our subjects.  We are spending way to much time on Math, the kids need a motivator to get them moving a bit faster through the problems. Thursday afternoon we had a 4H meeting. It was on honey bees.  The kids learned about bees, made a cute bee craft they can enter into the fair, made beeswax candles, and made a bee house.

Friday our STEM class was cancelled. But it turned out being a good thing. We went to therapy then went shopping for a 4H BBQ contest/workshop. We then had some friends stop by for a quick visit. Then we got busy packing up for the competition.  We had never done anything like this before. We finally took off to the contest, just to realize we were 30 minutes early. So we took a short drive and came back and got set up. Logan and Savannah were the only two who could participate in our family.  They learned a lot!  Lillian was a good sport! And the exciting part is they both placed high enough to go to district! Another thing we have never done! (All about new adventures!)

My thoughts keep traveling towards next school year. I'm asking for God's help, for him to show me the path he wants us to take. I know some changes are coming. I also know we are going to keep some things the same.  I hope you all had a blessed week.
