Week 8-International Homeschool Spirit Week

Image
It was a tough week this week.  Every morning we had trouble getting up and getting our chores done and to school on time.  We have also had more fussing and bickering than normal. Some weeks are like that. Monday we started the day good.  We spent the morning at the park with some friends we haven't gotten to spend much time with lately.  They took care of getting a ticket for Logan while we were gone camping so we would not miss the deadline.  Now that Logan is doing more things without me, he has to learn to keep me updated on deadlines and upcoming events with his after school youth group!  I am very thankful for our friends that did that for us!  I did not get any pictures of the kids playing, I spent time visiting too! We went home and worked through school work. Everyone did 4 drawings from different How to Draw books.  Lillian did a project on earthquakes, she made a "town" out of blocks and then caused an earthquake of different magnitu...

Group Subjects

There are some subjects we do together as a group during our homeschool day.  Here is a quick look at them. Art: This year I did not buy a single Art Curriculum for us to work through.  I decided we have a ton of art books that we will just work through this year.  We started this year with the Wizard, Pirate, and Princess things to make book.  We just went through the book and picked a few projects to make.  Later this Fall we will start in the Seasonal Start to Fall Chalk Pastels .  We love using chalk pastels, they make such beautiful pictures.  We will then pick a few projects from the Show me a story book to make later in the school year.  We also use some standard How to Draw books from time to time. We also use You Tube, I am loving Art Hub for Kids, and so are the children! Geography:   This year in Geography we are using "Trail Guide to World Geography."  I am not using the entire curriculum. This year we are using thi...

The Socialization Question??

When homeschooling, especially when just starting, every parent worries about the socialization aspect.  Will our children know how to interact with others their age?  Will our children know how to speak with adults?  Will our children get to lonely? Will they have friends?  Will they be able to play sports, or be in the band if they want to? The questions go on and on, and every so often a new question will come out of no where and you will be worried again.  I have to say that I worried about this a lot at the beginning of our journey, and I still worry about it now, and I am sure I will worry about it in the future.  However, I want you to know that there are many opportunities for our children to socialize.  And honestly, some of that socialization that goes on in public schools, I'm glad my children are missing!  I do want my children to be well rounded individuals, and I do want them to have friends, and I do not want them to be lonely....

Week 7-Sabbath Week!

Image
We were all so excited for this week to get here!  We are using a Sabbath Week schedule in our homeschool this year, this is the first year we have tried it.  We have regular school for 6 weeks and then for the 7th week we take a week off for rest and unconventional schooling. We decided for our first Sabbath Week we would take care of a few daunting chores we have been putting off and then spend the rest of the week at the lake camping. Monday Lillian cooked us pancakes for breakfast and the rest of the day was spent going through clothes, sorting closets and dressers, and putting away or making a donation box of clothes that the children have outgrown.  I helped the girls with their stuff because girl clothing is so much more complicated than boys. Logan really just needed to do some cleaning and sorting and he handled that by himself. It took us most of the day!  Monday evening was music for Logan and the girls hung out with their Meme and worked on their embroi...
