Summer Week 2

Image
This has been a pretty laid back week.  We have played some board games, mostly Battleship and The Game of Life.  We went and visited Meme and Papa at the lake one day and went fishing.  Thursday was Shane's last day of work, he is on summer break now too.  The rest of our time has just been spent working outside on some projects and cleaning house. Sticking with our "try new things" theme... Savannah found this strange looking fruit at the grocery store one day.  It is a dragon fruit.  We were not that impressed, especially with the $5 price tag!!  It was something new though.  Logan is going to try and propegate some seeds from it. Lillian got glasses this week too.  Her eye doctor thinks they may help with her dyslexia, her eyes won't get as tired and images will be clearer.  Hopefully they will help.  She is so cute in them! Hope you all had a blessed week too!

Update: Raised Bed Garden and Self Sufficincy

Image
I just wanted to post a few pictures of how our raised bed garden is doing, and about our progress towards self sufficincy. The corn is almost as tall as me now! The Chinese Eggplant has tiny eggplants on it, and the cucumber plants are vining really well and covered in blooms. The tomotoe plants have lots of green tomatoes!! Potatoes have stopped growing, but still haven't bloomed. Pepper plants are getting big, but no sign of peppers. The lettuce didn't grow very well, but we have been  able to have some fresh lettuce. Broccoli plants have stopped growing, but no sign of any broccoli. The raddish plants grew great, but they are not  forming any raddish  and some of the plants have already gone to seed. The carrots came up very sparingly, not sure if we will get any carrots in the end. The cotton in front is getting taken over by grass. The quinoa is growing really well. On to self sufficiny and homestea...

Summer Week 1

Image
Summer is finally here!  I have not fully decided what to do with our blog over the summer.  I know I will not do a day to day recap each week, mainly because the days always seem to run together during the summer months for me.  But I do want to continue to post about the highlights of our weeks for journalling purposes. This week was mainly a sewing week.  Lillian made a beautiful skirt to wear to her piano recital along with a matching purse, and to enter in the fair.  Savannah made a beautiful dress to also wear to piano recital and for her upcoming district competition. Logan started on a bag for his wheelchair and he also started another leather working project. Logan had a strange encounter with a bird at therapy.  It actually landed on him as he was walking! His theapist tried to get a picture, but it of course flew off as he was taking it. Music recital was this week.  The girls played beautifully on the piano and...

Week 40- Putting a bow on it

Our last official week of the school year was very productive.  I'm glad it is over for awhile. We all are ready for some summer fun! Monday we had our last Home Ec morning.  We didn't do anything fancy, we worked on catching up with household chores.  Monday afternoon we finished up our read aloud book and our God's World book.  The kids finished and presented their final book report of the year. We also finished Kirsten in American History.  Monday evening Lillian cooked supper for us on the grill. Tuesday morning we finished up our overview of the human body and our major body ststems.  We will study each system more in depth next year. We started Addi in American History.  We will be continuing with her over the summer.  Her story takes place during the Civil War.  We will be touring all the Arkansas Civil War Historic Parks over the summer that we can fit in! Tuesday evening Savannah cooked supper for us. Wednesday Logan had ...

Week 39-Wrapping Things Up

Image
The school year is almost over y'all! Every year goes by fast, but this year really has flown by!  We wrapped up lots of things this week. We still have a few things to finish up for the year. Monday we went bowling with some friends and out to lunch.  Kids bowl free has officially started for the summer and we are going to try and use our passes more than in the past. We had a great time.  Monday afternoon Logan and Savannah had 4H officer training and then I had 4H leader training. Tuesday morning Logan and Savannah practiced one more time for their BBQ competition. Tuesday afternoon we had to go gather up supplies for some projects the kids had to complete. Logan had trap practice in the afternoon. Wednesday the kids put finishing touches on some 4H posters, then we went to turn them in.  They all had music lessons with their new teacher. Then Logan had therapy.  We came home and spent the rest of the evening packing up the surburban for ...
