Week 26
Deuteronomy 31:8 "The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."
I know Jesus is always with me. I know He will never leave me. I take great comfort in that knowledge. However I often forget the last part of that verse, to not be afraid. Even more often, I forget to not be discouraged. I have found myself discouraged a lot this week, and even some pretty scary events have happened this week, one of which is not my story to tell. We are struggling. I pray we all find our footing, and joy again soon.
Last Saturday when we went to pick up the kids from Meme and Papa's, Logan had made knickerbocker glory from his Harry Potter cookbook. It was delicious! He did an amazing job!
Sunday the kids stayed with Meme and Papa again while Shane and I went to church to teach our classes. The flu is so bad here! We are trying to keep from getting it. Especially since Logan has been having so much lung trouble this winter.
Monday we started our week with Home Economics day. I am considering taking this out of our schedule for the rest of the school year, but have not quite decided yet. Lillian put some red beans in the crock pot to cook. Savannah made chocolate popcorn. Logan fixed us all lunch. We all had various cleaning projects to do. We then went down to school and had our Read Aloud, Bible Study, Math, Language, Reading, and History. Monday evening we did not have music, so we worked in the yard and burned some brush piles. Logan did play a little on his mandolin.
Tuesday we had a full day of school in the classroom. We all completed our next lessons in Math, Language, History, Science, Spelling. We had read aloud and bible study. Each child also spent some time on the computer. Savannah worked on coding. Logan played Oregon Trail. Lillian did a Blue's Clues Reading game. Savannah also did a science experiment this day. She looked for carbon in pebbles. In history Logan completed more on his time line. Lillian added another planet to her solar system. The girls both made a drawing of a pueblo style home from Josephina's time period. Tuesday afternoon I had a tutoring student, we tied Hezikiah out for a little while, then we just rested the rest of the evening.
Wednesday morning we went down to school and did our Read Aloud, Bible Study and everyone did a lesson in Math. Then we had agri time. The children all discovered how much meat comes from one cow when it is butchered. A wonderful blessing. After we finished that, the rest of the day was spent on a church project. My class sponsored a Pizza and Movie night at our church. So I ran to Wal-Mart to get drinks and snacks. Then we went to the church to start cooking pizzas. We watched "The Resurrection of Gavin Stone." It was a really good movie, if you haven't seen it I highly recommend it.
Thursday we had another full day in the classroom. We had Read Aloud, Bible Study, PE, and everyone completed their next lessons in math, history, language, and science. Lillian finished her solar system in science. Savannah did a science experiment cleaning pennies using a dark colored soda. Thursday evening we had the night off.
Friday morning we were supposed to work on our butterfly garden the kids are designing for our nature study project. We were also supposed to go to art class and archery. It was too cold and windy to work outside. Art class and archery were cancelled due to flu and other sickness. So we started the morning listening to Papa on the radio, he had a radio interview. Then we decided to have some video school time. We took a virtual field trip to Yellowstone National Park and learned about the geography and wildlife of the park. Then we watched a video called "Solutions in Science." It was about how scientist investigate and find answers. We then had to run to town to pick up Logan's medications and take him to therapy. We only had therapy once this week, Logan was supposed to go Wednesday too but I called and cancelled it because of all we needed to do to get ready for movie night at church. I'm so glad we did, Logan's therapist ended up with the flu! God's protection is awesome! The girls are all about elves right now. They ordered them some ear jewelry that makes them look like they have elven ears and they came in today. They are actually very pretty!
Saturday we got up and decided to burn another brush pile. It was a bad idea. When we started the fire, there was no wind. However after the fire got to burning really well, the wind started gusting out of no where. The fire got out, I helped Shane fight it until my asthma was affected to the point I couldn't breathe. He had to call the fire department. He almost had it out by the time they got here, but if the wind had gusted again it would have gotten into the woods. I'm not looking forward to that bill, but so very thankful for the firemen! Fires are so scary! Asthma is also very scary! I developed Asthma about 7 years ago...I'm still not use to it! I have had to stay inside the rest of the day trying to get my lungs to working properly, I believe I've breathed in a little too much smoke! I got one picture before the catastrophe! Everything in the picture below is now burned black all the way to the trees in the back!
We have a busy week ahead of us, and the flu has most of the local public schools closed down. So hopefully our upcoming week will be a fun week with no sickness!
