Week 4 in Review
I really can't believe it is September! This was our 4th week in school. We still are not doing every subject every day. What we typically try to do is one day we do our morning subjects of Meteorology, Bible, Geography, Art, Math, and Language Arts, and then the next day do our afternoon subjects of PE/Health, History, Spelling for Savannah, Reading for Lillian, Logan's Elective, Writing, and Science. We do this until we are familiar with our new curriculum and are more independent so I can divide my time up where I am most needed. We do this until after fair week. For some reason we are never able to get full days of school in until after fair. I use to fight this and get all stressed out about not having full days...now we just roll with it. We still end the year right where we need to be, and we get to enjoy getting started back in school instead of it being stressful. Here are a few highlights of this past week.
The week started on Sunday with church. Sunday afternoon our church hosted a Youth Rally at the park. The children all had a great time. Monday after school Lillian had a 4H meeting. Logan and Savannah both have a 4H group that they go to without their other siblings and so Lillian wanted a group all her own. It wasn't like the 4H meetings she is used to, but we will try it out for awhile. As much as they are all together, I think it is good for them to have some things they do on their own. While Lillian was at 4H, Logan and Savannah spent some time with Meme and Papa. Logan practiced his violin and mandolin with Papa and Savannah worked on her embroidery with Meme.
Tuesday after school all the kids had a 4H meeting. They each made a sand art planter to enter into the fair. I think they turned out really nice.
Tuesday night Logan cooked supper for us. It was so awesome guys! He has been learning Dutch Oven cooking this summer. He made Hungarian Goulash. It was really really good!
Wednesday evening was church evening.
One thing we decided to do this year is learn how to be junior meteorologist. So Thursday during school we set up our weather station. We also downloaded an app from NASA to send our recordings in with. We are all pretty excited about this new adventure.
Thursday evening we had a friend come and visit us for a little while and then I tutored a young girl in reading for a little while. After all that, the children went down to the "campsite" in our backyard for a little while and set up camp.
Friday was a long day. Logan had an adaptive behavior test that he had to go and take for part of his insurance requirements. It was supposed to last about 2 hours. I sent the girls to their Papa's, and I had Logan at the testing center at 11. He tested until 12:15 and the doctor told us to go have lunch and be back at 1 to continue testing. Meme took us out to eat Chinese, so good! At 1 he continued testing and he stayed back there until 3:15! I was quite worried about him. The doctor came out and spoke with me, turns out it is kinda an intelligence test...of sorts...and they had to keep testing until Logan quit getting answers correct. Well, that didn't happen, he is such a smart young man! The doctor told me he thought he had enough information, but if he didn't he would call us back in next week. Logan said he really enjoyed it and the doctor was really nice. We came home and worked on some things for our fair booth for our main 4H group. I made a scuba man and pool noodle seaweed. The children made sea urchins.
The kids were supposed to camp out at their "campsite" this night, but we were so tired and blah from the long day, we settled for pizza and a movie.
In other happenings this week, someone decided we really needed another animal to raise and left us this sweet little girl late one evening. Savannah quickly laid claim to her and promised to take care of her. Savannah has been wanting a puppy for awhile now, so we decided to let her give it a shot, can't get better than free and delivered. She named her Sunny. She really is a sweet puppy.
Bo, our 12 year old boxer, wasn't really excited about this new addition to our family. However, by the end of the week he has decided they can be friends and share.
It is now labor day weekend. We don't have any major plans, I need to get some planning done for next week, some shopping done, and we are going to have a cookout with Meme and Papa on Monday. I hope you all had a blessed week!
