Week 27 Heartaches and Blessings
To say the very least, this has been an emotional roller coaster week. We have had both sadness and joy. I also received some much needed encouragement this week.
Monday we decided to take Home Ec. morning out of our school schedule for awhile. With us starting back with therapy, having Friday group classes, trap meetings, and archery practice, I didn't feel like we were getting enough classroom time. So we headed down to school first things and worked through our subjects. Logan went to music in the afternoon, the girls and I stayed home. I just didn't feel good all day.
Tuesday in the early morning hours, we received a call from the nursing home that they were sending my mother in law to the hospital. She has been sick for awhile, but had begun improving. She never made it to the hospital, she passed away nearly as soon as they had her loaded in the ambulance. Shane and I then spent the day making her funeral arrangements.
Wednesday was the funeral and church.
Thursday we tried desperately to get back on schedule. We worked hard all day in the classroom on all our subjects. I called therapy and apologized for completely forgetting about Logan's appointment on Wednesday and went ahead and cancelled his appointment for Friday. Thursday night was a hard night emotionally.
Friday we decided to get out and go about our planned activities. We spent the entire morning working outside in the area of the yard that is going to be our butterfly garden. We then went to a STEM class at our local WMA. It was on animals staying warm in the winter. We did an experiment with surgical gloves, crisco, and ice water to demonstrate how their thick skin and blubber help keep them warm. Then we talked about how humans survive harsh temperatures and we made homemade fire starters from recycled materials. Then Caleb took us outside and showed us the proper way to stack a fire and we used a fire starter to start a fire. Each family started their own fire. We had a lot of fun and met some really nice new homeschool friends. Friday afternoon we had archery practice.
Saturday morning was our first archery competition! We got there early so we could watch some other flights of archers, so we would kinda know what to do! Logan and Savannah both got to compete. Lillian isn't old enough yet to compete, but she helped me take videos and pictures from the stands. Logan placed 3rd on his team and Savannah placed 1st on her team. They did so well! I'm very proud of both of them. They will hopefully receive their awards some time this upcoming week. We were there all day long! When we left, we went out to eat at a local favorite to celebrate!

Sunday we went to church and then to eat with Meme and Papa. We came home to get caught up on laundry and dishes from a crazy last few days. I have realized Sunday afternoons are going to be a little difficult for awhile, this is usually the time we go visit with Nana at the nursing home. We know she is happy now, and she has so longed to be happy again, but she will be missed.
The encouragement I received just came sporadically throughout the week. I have been so encouraged this week by others that have complemented my children and our homeschool successes. I met a lovely older couple who homeschooled their daughter and received so much encouragement to keep on homeschooling and the benefits of having an adult child that was homeschooled. I have also met several new homeschooling families this week.
I hope you all have a blessed week, I am heading to work on our schedule for the upcoming week!
