Summer Week 5-The City

This week we tagged along with Dad again for another week away.  I keep telling him we can't count it as a vacation, but it really was. I dislike going to the city very much, but it was a week away from cooking, cleaning, laundry, and chores. The kids had a great time. We stayed in a nice hotel with a nice pool.  The kids and I stayed in the hotel most of the time, we went to the fitness center and pool each day. We also worked on some school work and 4H competition stuff.

We did get out some.  We are up to the Civil War in American History, so we went to Reed's Battelfield and a museum of military history. We learned quite a bit about the Civil War in Arkansas.

We also went to Pinnacle Mountain State Park. We went to the visitor center and museum.  We also hiked a trail.  They had several paved trails to choose from.

I guess the thing that stuck out most to me about this trip was the homeless.  Living in the country, near small town America, we don't see homeless much.  Even making our 7-8 trips to the city every year for doctor visits, we don't see homeless often.  On this trip, we saw them every where.  Every gas station, every intersection, several parking lots. One man in particular just broke my heart.  Here I was belly aching about my troubles of being in rush hour in the city, going to a state park, and I see this man standing at an intersection with a sign that said hungry. Did I mention that it was right at 100° that day, that we had a huge free breakfast, that I had no reason to complain.  I cried silent tears the rest of the way to the state park. These are not the people we saw, they are stock photos, but I just wanted to post some pictures and say I'm going to try to remember to pray for the homeless, and remember their faces when I feel like complaining.

It was great to get home.  The things that I noticed our first night home were the fireflies and the song of the whipperwheel. Our garden needed some water desperately.  Our baby bunnies have grown a ton and so have our chickens. I guess I'll always feel better in the country!

I hope you all had a blessed week!
