Week 6-Fitting it all in
This was our last week before our Sabbath break. There was a certain point I wanted to get to in each of our subjects before we went on break week. I wanted to finish some things up so it would be easier for grades and I didn't want to stop in the middle of a book or anything so we would not have to do as much refreshing when our break is over.
So we spent more time on certain subjects this week in order to get to those stopping points.
Bible- We walked with the Narnians and with Aslan this week. This finished our Bible study, Through the Wardrobe. I highly recommend it! We will be starting a new Bible study when break is over.
Science- We talked about the inventions of crayons, cameras, and the bathyshpere. We studied about women inventors Ann Moore, Marion Donovan, Sybilla Masters, Mary Dixon Kies, and Ruth Handler. This finished up our lapbook. We will start a new group science after break.
Math- Everyone did one lesson in Saxon Math and one lesson is Minecraft math.
Read Aloud- Since we finished Carry on Mr. Bowditch last week, we used this time to work on book reports. Lillian finished her book report on Ferdinand and Savannah finished hers on Pollyanna. Logan still has to finish his on Little Men.
History- Logan did two lessons in his History and had to have an open discussion with us on everything he has learned so far. The girls and I finished Meet Samantha. We will be starting a new American Girl and time period when we come back.
Language Arts- Everyone continued their lessons. Lillian completed a book in her writing.
In other happenings this week:
Sunday was the beginning of Rosh Hashanah. Since we are studying the Jewish Holidays this year we went to the lake and had a meal with our family and then threw our sins away into the water.
We introduced Mabel to our other cats and have been getting her use to staying outside. She is big enough now to make it fine outside. We had a picnic lunch outside that day too, the weather has been perfect all week.
Wednesday the girls started an after school program at a local church called Kid's Club. They had a good time, and I got to spend some much needed quiet time at a nearby park! Logan and Dad had a 3 hour meeting with Medicaid about Logan's insurance, those meetings are never fun!
Friday was our first STEM class for the year. I think it was a hit with everyone, my kids certainly had a great time. They waded the waters, canoed, sorted, and examined lots of macroinvertebrates and other critters they collected from the water.
They even brought some of their finds home and added to our fresh water fish tank. Our beta wasn't real sure about the snails!
Next week I hope for us to have some fun and refreshing days! Hope you all had a blessed week!
