Week 8- School at the Lake

I'm a little later than normal with our weekly post, our week was so full! We finally got to take our family camping trip.  It rained a little bit a couple of days, but it was overall perfect camping weather!! We even got out jackets one day! This post will be picture heavy!

We did not get as much book learning done as I would have liked, but we did a lot of fun hands on lab learning this week. Our new curriculum has been a good fit.

Bible- We started Proverbs People.  We are studying right now about the difference between sluggards and diligence.  We all need to hear this, it has been good for us.

Science- We had an introduction to microscopes and Botony. It was fun, we had a great time making our own slides and looking at all the different types of plants at the lake. The kids each took pictures of the plants they found.  The kids even got in a little biology dissection when cleaning their fish.

Math- We only did one day of Saxon Math.  We did however do lots of fractions and measuring with our outdoor cooking. We even measured and weighed some really nice Crappie.

Read Aloud Time- We started Indian Captive.  So far we like it, but it's harder to read aloud than other books.  So, we haven't gotten very far yet.

History- Our new American Girl History book did not arrive until this weekend, it was over a week late!  So, we talked about how people lived in "olden times" on the American Frontier, we will be attending a Frontier Days Celebration at a local state park soon.

Language Arts- Each child did one lesson in their different workbooks. Each child did lots of free reading. They also each wrote one essay from a writing prompt.  Lillian also made a scrapbook of our trip to send to her penpal. Lillian also made a picture for our camp hosts.  Lillian enjoyed helping them this week picking up sticks and raking leaves.

Some other things we enjoyed this week...fishing, skipping rocks, building castles and sculptures in the sand, family time, music around the camp fire, and nature's beauty.  I am very blessed to live the life I live.  I wouldn't trade it for anything!

I can think of no better way to "have school" than out in God's domain.  We had a wonderful time, and accomplished a lot of real world learning.

God Bless!

I would like to leave you with one thought in sign form.  It struck me as very funny, but also quite profound.
