Week 9-Field Trip Week
It's been a smooth sailing week this week. We learned, we played, we rested, we just had a good calm week. Lillian made these beautiful scarecrows for our driveway.
Monday morning we enjoyed our last morning at the lake and we worked on Bible, Science, and our read aloud. We then packed up and headed home. When we got home we used one of our free monthly magazines for school. We read through all the trivia, learned about a rock skipping contest, solar and wind energy advances, and we did the Great Central U.S. Shake out to prepare for possible earthquakes. We also took time to review our fire escape plan and tornado safety.
This week in school:
Bible- We are still working through Proverbs People. We have read through several examples of slothfulness and it's consequences.
Science- Botany is going well. We looked under the microscope at several different plant parts. We also studied the plant cell.
Math- Everyone had a test this week. They also each worked through a couple of lessons of Saxon Math.
Read Aloud- We are still reading Indian Captive. The chapters are long! We have only made it to Chapter 3 because I can only read about half a chapter out loud during our read aloud time.
History- We went to the library and picked out books to do research for our upcoming History Fair. We started Rebecca in our American Girl studies, her family were Jewish Russian Immigrants. The girls made paper nesting dolls. Logan worked through a couple of lessons in his History. We also watched The Wilderness Family Movie, it is based on a true story.
Language Arts- We just continued on. Everyone completed several lessons this week.
Other happenings this week:
Monday night Lillian had Taekwondo
Tuesday Logan had a doctor's appointment.
Wednesday evening the girls went to kids club. I love the idea of kids club. The girls like it some days, but some days have not been good. Today was really bad for Savannah. The balance for her has now shifted to more bad days than good days. Savannah has chosen to stop going. Lillian still wants to keep going for now, so I will continue to take her. Wednesday night was church.
Periodically through the week Savannah has been making beautiful shape designs on our nail board.
Friday Logan went to work for his Papa. He has been given the job of cleaning guns. He does a good job I'm told. I'm proud he is being a dilgent worker on his first paying job.
Meme, the girls, and I took a field trip to Historic Washington State Park for Frontier Days for Homeschoolers. I'm so thankful they offer this day for Homeschoolers. We got to: ride a Surrey(wagon), make homemade candles, learn to make lye soap, learn to make clothes from outgrown clothes, learn about blacksmithing, learned about making bread, learned about horses feet, visited a gun museum, used a printing press, play frontier games, worked a loom, made string, and predict the weather. I did not get a picture of everything, but I got a lot!
Saturday Shane and Logan went to church for our church's men's breakfast. They had a good time. The girls and I went and did our grocery shopping for the week.
I hope you all had a blessed week!
