Week 26

We were able to accomplish a lot in school this week!  I'm proud of the kids for how hard they have worked.

Monday:

We learned about the Waldenses family in Bible History.

In science we talked about tire design on vehicles and learned how the different types of tread help on different types of road conditions.

Math was just continuing in our lessons, we are half way finished with our curriculum for the year!  We will be looking for a new math curriculum for next year, I'm really sad about this. I hate changing math curriculums.  However, the one we are using has started spiraling to fast for any type of mastery of new concepts. Sigh....we were really liking it, but I truly think we need a mastery approach to math. Especially since math is not anyone's favorite subject in our homeschool.

Language Arts was just continuing on in our lessons as well.

Logan went to work for his Papa today and the girls and I pulled out a bag of seashells for some science discovery time.  I have not expressed it in words, but last year in our homeschool our theme was trying new things.  This year's theme is using things up.  I have collected many neat kits and fun stuff curriculum over the years, and this year we are using these things up.  The seashell bag was one of those kits that has just been waiting to be explored.

Tuesday:

In Bible History today we learned about the life of John Wycliffe.  We had never studied him before, so it was interesting to think about his work and how his determination to get bibles in the hands of every common person changed the world.

Science today was Kitchen Chemistry.  So we did a little Biochemistry and made Amish bread using yeast.  Savannah also turned a powder and liquid into a semisolid by making pudding.  Lillian turned a solid into a liquid by making potato soup.  It was a delicious day in Science!!

Math and Language Arts trucked right along.  Lillian started a Literature study today on nursery rhymes. It is really just for fun. (using up stuff again)

Wednesday:

John Huss and Martin Luther were our focus in Bible History.

In science we focused on Sir Isaac Newton and his three laws of motion.  Each child had to come up with an experiment that proved his first law of motion.  They had a lot of fun with this experiment.  I'm thankful nothing got broken in all the "motion."

Language Arts and Math still continued.

Logan started using two new curriculums today, to help him get better prepared for high school.  He started a coding study and a Century 21 basic computer skills class.

Thursday:

We spent the first part of our day picking out, and signing up for, some art classes that are going to be offered in the spring.  The rest of the morning was dedicated to art.  Each child designed and created themselves a Valentine box to take to a couple of parties we have coming up.

In the afternoon we did Math and went for a long walk for some P. E.

Friday:

Today was our first Valentine's party.  I did not get a single picture.  We had some hurt feelings and rough tumbles and falls.  I'm pretty sure one child ended up with a broken tail bone....but some group events just end up this way.  We spent the afternoon trying to get comfortable with the physically hurt one, and wiping tears and discussing growing up with the emotionally hurt one.  I want so bad to protect my children from all sadness and hurt.  As they grow up, I know that it isn't possible.  It sure breaks my heart to see them hurt, but we are learning to turn all these troubles over to God together.

In other events this week:

Monday was music and taekwondo night.

Tuesday we stayed home.

Wednesday was trap, church potluck, and bible study.  Lillian wanted a mom and Lillian day, so she stayed home from kid's club to help me cook for potluck.

Thursday we stayed home.

Friday Logan practiced with his crossbow, and we stayed home and had movie night.

Saturday we stayed home, except for one errand Shane and I had to run, which only took about 30 minutes.

Did ya'll notice all the staying home evenings!!  It was so nice, and just what we all need!

On a personal note I finished a really good bible study this week. It was called Enemies of the Heart by Andy Stanley.  If I understood correctly this 5 day study was just a piece of a bigger study Andy Stanley has, I may try to find it.  I really enjoyed it.

Also, I came across this quote this week by C.S. Lewis.  It really comforted me about the work I do here at home.  Sometimes I forget just how important being a mom is.

You know what else I did?  I booked us a hotel room and bought us a one day family pass to an upcoming Homeschool Convention!!!  I'm nervous and excited about this family trip!! I'm hoping it will really help us all find our focus.

God bless!
