Week 24

We have been passing around some sickness this week, nothing terrible. We are finally getting to feel the benefits of our slow down plan.  Our commitments have ended, the holidays are over, and we have been getting to stay home most days. It has been very nice.

In school this week:


Logan:
Literature: test, active and passive verse, vocabulary, essay on Aristotle.
Biology: species, subdivisions, unicellular organisms, worked on an outline
Math: patterns, review, test
History: Rome
Thinking: Chess
Bible: Joseph in Egypt
Foundations: attentiveness
Music: pipes
Computer: online safety


Savannah:
Math: adding and subtracting negative numbers, adding and subtracting fractions
Reading: read Gareth and Lynette, read The marriage of Geraint
Language Arts: vocabulary
Bible: Matthew
History: studied area around the Nile and Mesopotamia
Biology: digestive system and food
Music: whistling
Computer: made a word processing file
Art: cave paintings



Lillian:
Language Arts: commas in a series, 'qu' words, 'or' sounds review, keyword outline, reading comprehension
History: Rome, find colosseum on the timeline, build a replica of the colosseum with Mom and Dad
Biology: digestive and urinary systems
Bible: read from primary bible reader, kindness collage
Math: money, adding and subtraction review
Art: use pictures to create a story, color wheel



Personal Finance: Savannah, Lillian, and I went clothes shopping one day. We are learning how to get the most from our money, bargain shop, and really think about needs vs wants.

Agri: Logan worked with his Papa this week in the knife shop. He also watched his wheelchair get repaired.

Read Aloud: We are still reading about Peter Struvesant. It has been a good story.

Friday school:

Drive thru History: We watched Rome episode 2.

King of Glory: We watched episodes on angels and sin entering the world.




Art: The girls did a painting project. Logan worked on pencil sketching. They all did a great job.

Board Game: The kids played The Game of Life.

Other happenings:

We went to church and Sunday potluck.

Logan and Lillian went to music night.


Dad taught Lillian how to make cinnamon biscuits.

Week 4 in Review

I really can't believe it is September!  This was our 4th week in school. We still are not doing every subject every day.  What we typically try to do is one day we do our morning subjects of Meteorology, Bible, Geography, Art, Math, and Language Arts, and then the next day do our afternoon subjects of PE/Health, History, Spelling for Savannah, Reading for Lillian, Logan's Elective, Writing, and Science.  We do this until we are familiar with our new curriculum and are more independent so I can divide my time up where I am most needed. We do this until after fair week. For some reason we are never able to get full days of school in until after fair.  I use to fight this and get all stressed out about not having full days...now we just roll with it.  We still end the year right where we need to be, and we get to enjoy getting started back in school instead of it being stressful. Summer Week 9

I didn't keep day to day records this week, but here are the highlights. We had church on church days. 😊 We celebrated an Adoption of some friends of ours. They make such a lovely family, and we will continue to pray for their growth and bonding. Lillian did a couple of science experiments.  She made a tornado in a bottle and an ocean in a bottle. Dad had help from the kids this week with the barn. They finished enclosing it.  All they lack now is making the doors. Lillian, Buddy, and I went to the park one morning. We picked a theme for our homeschool year.  It is going to be "Having Fun in Arkansas."  We are planning to try and visit quite a few state parks that we have not visited before. Week 26

Deuteronomy 31:8 "The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.  Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." I know Jesus is always with me.  I know He will never leave me.  I take great comfort in that knowledge.  However I often forget the last part of that verse, to not be afraid.  Even more often, I forget to not be discouraged.  I have found myself discouraged a lot this week, and even some pretty scary events have happened this week, one of which is not my story to tell.  We are struggling.  I pray we all find our footing, and joy again soon. Last Saturday when we went to pick up the kids from Meme and Papa's, Logan had made knickerbocker glory from his Harry Potter cookbook.  It was delicious! He did an amazing job!
