Week 12
This week did not go at all as planned. I'm going to be real honest here, the last two weeks have been exceptionally emotional for me. Not only do we have several appointments happening with Logan right now to determine a surgery date for a major surgery, I also have been doing a lot of self reflection. I have been spending a lot of time in prayer and thought trying to make some decisions for my family. I feel a change coming, and I am not found of change. We have had a ton of change in the last year with moving and job changing, I was hoping we could settle back into normal. However, I feel there is more change to come, and I hope that God will help me in making the best decisions I can for my family. Here is what we did get accomplished this week, it was not a lot of book learning!
Sunday was church and visiting grandparents.
Monday we started our day with our Home Economics time. The children all worked on a sewing project. Logan worked on his embroidery and the girls worked on making more pot holders. We then had lunch and went down to the classroom to work on our study of Martin Luther and the Reformation and writing a fictional story.
Monday evening Logan got a new kitten. He named her Minerva, she is quite precious.
Tuesday we were up hours before the sun heading to the hospital for tests and appointments with Logan. All went well. After the appointment we were supposed to get to go see a full scale model of Christopher Columbus' ship "The Nina." However, they changed their port schedule and they are not due to come in until next week. It was great disappointment all the way around. Since we didn't get to tour the ship, Savannah had the great idea to go to the museum for awhile since we have passes! That idea pulled us out of our disappointment and we headed off to the museum. We decided we would try to see the ship next week when we come back for more tests and appointments. Tuesday when we got home we went straight to have supper with our adult Sunday School class. It was great because I didn't have to cook when we got home, but it sure was a long day!
Wednesday we just could not get real motivated. We all overslept. We all fussed over chores. We did get a little bit of book work done in school; math, language and weather. We finally had some rain in our rain gauge! We worked a little more on our study of the Reformation, I believe this year, on Oct 31, will be the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther nailing his thesis to the church doors. We then went to town to run a few errands, then to kids club and youth. Afterwards we went to church potluck and Wednesday night services.
Thursday Savannah woke up not feeling well at all. She was running fever, lots of sinus issues, and a sore throat. So we had video school. Lillian watched some sight word videos. Then everyone watched a few episodes of Liberty Kids to get to the time period the girls are studying in History. Then everyone played a few educational games and we called it good. Thursday evening I tutored and then we all went to bed early.
Friday we were supposed to study pumpkins in our nature study, but dad was home, so we just spent some time doing a lot of not much! I watched Savannah all morning to make sure she was not running any more fever, and she didn't. We loaded up and headed out for a field trip to a skating rink. The girls have been wanting to go skating for a very long time. Lillian has skates she bought at dirt cheap a while back and she skates all over the house every time she gets a chance. Savannah had skates a long time ago. They both have been begging to go to a skating rink forever! The problem with that is there is only one skating rink within 100 miles of us, and I thought it was closed. However, I got in touch with them and was able to set up a time for us to come skate. I set up the trip with a homeschool group so we could get a group rate. However, the day before and the day of, nearly everyone cancelled. We did not have enough for the group, but the last family to cancel, cancelled on me 20 minutes before our scheduled time so I did not have time to call the owners and cancel. So we went on prepared that we might have to pay the entire fee ourselves. There was a total of 4 families there, with only 9 kids skating, well below our limit. However, the owners were so nice. We just had to pay the regular per person charge and we had the whole skating rink basically to ourselves. The owners had had a hard week, just like us, so we shared stories and visited while the kids had fun. They were such a sweet couple and I have thought about them often since then. I learned that her father had opened the skating rink in the 50's. She started helping run it in the 70's. I learned about how some years it is a booming business, but in the last few years it has not been. They enjoy it though, so they keep it open. I am so glad that we went. I plan on taking the kids back again. Logan had to help his momma! I put on some skates and grabbed his handlebars and he skated me all over the place. He particularly enjoyed turning quick circles and trying to loose me. He underestimated my grip! Lillian is a natural skater. Savannah was doing well by the time our time was up. She is asking for skates for Christmas now.
Saturday we were up with the sun and out the door for a family trip to Oklahoma. We went and seen "Oklahoma Grandma." She is the children's great grandma. We don't get to see her very often because she lives so far away. We had a good time. Everyone enjoyed their visit and Grandma looked good.
It is Sunday again and we went to church this morning. Lillian and I had to leave early, Lillian just didn't feel good. Everyone else stayed and had Church potluck. Lillian and I slept on and off all day. I guess we are just really tired from the long week. We have another long week ahead of us. Hopefully it will all be good, and hopefully I will get some answers to my emotionally challenging questions for our family.
