Week 9
We have had a good week. I can tell I am having some trouble with my thyroid, I have Hashimoto's Disease, and I am feeling it this week.
Sunday Logan had a youth event with his after school youth program so we went to church and came straight home to let him rest a bit before taking him back to town for youth movie afternoon. We came home and the girls watched the new movie "Monster Trucks," it was a really good family movie.
Monday we started the morning with home economics. We began a new chore chart system, it is very similar to ones that have worked for us in the past. We had also managed to keep caught up on our chores over the weekend so the kids made pumpkin spice cookies. We were thrilled to find that Great Value has started making a cream cheese icing with no artificial food coloring! They all three worked together and I did not have to do anything but get the pan out of the oven every 10 minutes when that batch was done. They are getting quite proficient!
After lunch we headed down to the classroom. We worked on Art, Spelling, Reading, Logan worked on his Elective, and we also worked on History. In Art we started our fall chalk pastel art curriculum. We made drawings of acorns on the ground with fall leaves.
Monday night Logan and the girls went to music and I went to Women's Bible Study Night at Church.
Tuesday Logan was supposed to have a doctors appointment, but his doctor got sick and called and rescheduled. Our town has had a lot of strep throat and stomach virus going around! We headed down to school and had a catch up day. We worked on our Matthew bible study. We updated our weather logs and learned about air pressure. We did our next lessons in Math and English. We finished our Geography lessons on North America. The girls and I got caught up with our American Girl History Lapbook and Logan got caught up in his Literature. It was a good catch up day. Tuesday afternoon we got to stay home. Meme and Papa came and picked up Savannah and took her to get a new bike. She loves it and has been riding it every spare minute she has!
Wednesday was a typical school day. We worked on our next lessons in each subject. In Geography we talked about Panama and the building of the Panama Canal. I did not realize that so many people died in the building of the Panama Canal, so we then discussed whether or not a shortcut in travel was worth that many lives. We decided it wasn't, but that obviously the people who wanted the canal built did. We also started discussing Venezuela, so we discussed the recent travel bans. We also talked about bordering countries, major cities, plants, and animals that live there.
Logan officially finished his first elective course on Ancient Rome. He has made all the duct tape weapons we wants and completed an express lapbook on Rome. He then chose what he wanted to work on next. He picked typing.
We quit a little early and headed out the door to Youth, Kid's club, potluck, and church. Wednesday's are so busy!
Thursday we started the day a little slower than normal, Lillian had been sick through the night and we needed some rest. We did head on down to school, she was feeling much better when she woke up. We worked on completing the next lessons in our morning subjects. Logan's wheelchair repairman stopped by and worked on his wheelchair, this has not been the best wheelchair he has ever owned, but because of insurance purposes it has to last. The girls built model airplanes and took some time experimenting with flying them.
Thursday afternoon we had school at the house instead of in the classroom. We all watched "Sheep Snacks," guys that show makes us all laugh so hard! Is it so good for us to take time to laugh with one another! Then the older two watched "Drive Thru History," while Lillian had a science experiment. She has been studying rocks in her science and how they are formed. We made sedimentary rock cookies. I have never made bar cookies. I read out the instructions and Lillian did the tasks, she did a great job. As we made the cookies we talked about the different layers that press together to make rocks. They are really awesome cookies!

Thursday night we went out to look at the harvest moon. It was pretty cloudy here, and my phone doesn't take great pictures of the night sky, but we got to see it in its greatness!
Today is Friday and it has been a good day so far. We studied several things in our Nature Study to get caught up. We talked about the Autumnal Equinox. We also talked about what makes leaves change colors in the fall, and what makes each pigment in the leaves like: chlorophyll, xanthophyll, carotene, and sugars. We also are working through our next lessons in each subject and we are getting to have some free reading time. We are staying home tonight and tomorrow!
