Week 16-Thanksgiving
Well we did not get over our sick stomach quickly. Sunday, Lillian and I were still very sick. So we did not go to church or to my Aunt's thanksgiving meal. Hopefully we will get to go see everyone soon.
Monday we started feeling better. Dad was home this week, so he helped with Home Ec. Morning. He and the girls worked at getting the pumpkin used for cooking out of fresh sugar pumpkins. I helped Logan with a sewing project. He has been wanting to sew for some time with the machine, but I wasn't sure exactly how that would work since he isn't able to lift or press with his legs much. Our 4H lady reminded me that some time ago, sewing cabinets would have a knee press instead of a foot pedal. I got to thinking about trying to attach my pedal to the side of the cabinet...I couldn't come up with a simple way to do that. I ended up just rearranging the cords and sitting the foot pedal on top of the sewing cabinet. He used one hand to guide his material and one hand to press the pedal. It worked pretty good, I think with some practice he will have it down. He made a beautiful set of Christmas drink coasters for us. After lunch the kids and I went down to school. We had art today, so we used Kids Art Hub on youtube and made turkeys. I think they turned out really nice. Dad worked on installing a heater in our classroom.
Tuesday a dear friend of ours came and taught a STEM class for our homeschool group. I am so thankful that he took time, on his day off, to come give this class for us. He brought a 3D printer and taught us about how it works, gave us a demonstration on it printing, gave us samples of things it had printed, and let the kids experiment making objects on the computer program. We also discussed how this technology is being used in the work force and possible ways it will be used in the future. We all thought it was quite fascinating. The mom's all enjoyed the class as much as the kids!
Wednesday we had a full school day. We got in all our subjects and worked on a Thanksgiving memory verse workbook. Wednesday afternoon there was no Kid's Club, no Youth, and no church. So we stayed home. Dad and Logan went hunting, and they got a doe. I didn't get any pictures of it though. The girls and I used the pumpkin from Monday to make a homemade pumpkin pie, it was so delicious!
Thursday we got up and fed animals and went straight to Meme and Papa's for Thanksgiving. The kids watched the Macy's parade while the women cooked and the men worked on a remodeling project. After eating a wonderful meal we went outside and Papa helped the kids make a stable for the kids to put up a manger scene this year. After that was completed we processed the deer.
Friday we took the day off from school and worked in the yard. We picked up pecans, raked leaves, burned brush piles, and moved the camper a little further away from the house so we could decorate for Christmas. Then the kids set up their manger scene. They did a great job, now we just need to find a light to shine on it at night. This is a really old set and the original cords are long gone. After we finished all that, dad and I went and did a little bit of Black Friday shopping to finish out our Christmas shopping. I so so so dislike Black Friday shopping, but this year it really wasn't that bad. Friday night we all went to take advantage of the deals and the girls all got new shoes and we bought a Christmas Tree. We usually use a fake tree, but we have decided that our theme for Advent this year is going to be "An Old Fashion Christmas at Home." It is a beautiful tree.
Saturday we spent the morning cleaning house and rearranging furniture to make room for everyone to sit and still have room for the tree. We also got rid of some furniture and put up new shelves for the movies and games. After lunch we went back over to Meme and Papa's and Meme and I helped the girls ride the horse. Our horse, Cia Breeze did an amazing job with the girls. She is an Arabian who really has not been messed with enough to be a beginner's horse. She has a good nature though, so I decided to let go and give her a chance. I am so thankful I did, and that she did so well. Lillian took right off and Cia was great with her. Savannah is working up her courage, but I think after she has ridden Cia a few times the trust will come. Saturday night we put lights on our tree.
We had a good week full of blessings. We have another busy week ahead of us. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
