New Year's thoughts
"I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.". Galations 2:20
This verse has been so powerful to me since the beginning of January. It's the verse on our new calendar for January. I've just been really soaking up this verse and applying it to myself, and really thinking about what that means. It just seems to speak so deeply to me right now.
I have also been evaluating our homeschool and just our daily schedules. We are busy people here, which I know everyone is. However, I feel like we are too busy, and our family time is greatly suffering. So, we are going to make some changes. I think our after hours tutoring business is going to have to be cut down. Yes, we always can use the extra money it generates, but I'm definitely feeling that it might be costing us things money can't buy and you can never get back. We are literally engaged in something every night of the week, it's too much.
Things we will be changing in our homeschool:
Nature study: Instead of working on a curriculum and drawing in our journals we are going to be getting dirty. We have plans to start work on a butterfly garden, a raised bed vegetable garden, and a wildlife food plot.
STEM class: Instead of me teaching the class and spending so much time planning and getting items together, we are going to be utilizing our local WMA. I will be giving a list of ideas and thoughts to them and they will design the classes and get everything ready for us. I believe we will be able to do so much more, and get involved in some real life situations using the WMA.
P.E.: We are actually going to try and do some P.E. We have not been faithful with this at all this year.
Therapy: Logan will be starting back with P.T. this month. I will use this time to work with Lillian on her dyslexia therapy, and hopefully some one on one with Savannah while he is back with the therapist.
Read Aloud Time: We are adding this time back into our days, both during school time and before bed. Our days just were so much better when we read together. During school time I will be reading from the Christian Liberty Nature Readers and at night I will be reading from The Chronicles of Narnia.
Science Lab: We did this last year, and we are missing it. We are going to take one school day a month and devote it to science labs/experiments. Topics will be just on whatever the children are interested in at the time.
We are continuing with:
All our core subjects are working good for us so math, language, social studies, and science will remain the same.
Archery
Music
4H Sharp Shooters
4H Nature Seekers
Kid's Club and Youth
Homeschool group activities
All these activities are really loved by everyone.
The children all want to start with formal music lessons, but I'm just not sure we can squeeze that in this year.
It is time for me to start looking for curriculum for next school year. I always buy what we need with income tax returns. So I need to really find what we want for next year.
I hope these changes will be a blessing to our family.
