Week 23

We are officially back into the full swing of homeschool life.  I am starting to implement some of the changes I discussed on our New Year's post, but just a little at a time.

Monday we started back with Home Ec. morning.  We all worked on cleaning and laundry.  Lillian made mac and cheese and Savannah worked on learning how to make a pitcher of tea.  After lunch we headed down to the classroom and worked through math, science, and language.  Monday evening I babysat for a friend while my children all went to music. We all love music so much!  Meme and Papa bought a Karaoke machine and we are loving adding it to our music night.  As an extra bonus, I realized this will help Lillian with her reading.  When she knows the song she can read the words to know when to sing, it will help her get quicker with reading and build her confidence! Since she has dyslexia it helps her so much that the words light up as you are supposed to sing them, most of the time a letter at a time..it helps the letters to stay still for her!  I was excited about that little learning bonus!

Tuesday I had to spend a lot of time on the phone.  I had to call the children's new dental insurance and assign them to their dentist to make sure they were put with the dentist they have always had. I had to give them all our life history and important information..for three children that took a little while.  Then I called a museum we plan to visit and set up the time for us to arrive.  While I was on the phone the older kids worked on Language arts and science, Lillian worked on independent reading.  Then I did our read aloud, the children were excited that this is back in our schedule.  After lunch the girls and I started on a new American Girl in our history.  We met Josefina, we are ready to learn more about her and what life was like for her.  Lillian added another planet to her solar system, Earth.  After school I had tutoring, then mom and I went to a Women's Night Out with our church family.  Shane took the kids and ran a quick upcoming birthday mission.  We all got home late, but it was worth it.

Wednesday we took a field trip.  We went to a historic theater and got to hear the symphony orchestra.  We loved it!  We got to hear them perform Symphony no. 34 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Peter and the Wolf by Sergei Prokofiev.  Peter and the Wolf also had a performer included to act out the scenes and introduce us to all the instruments.  Ya'll it was really good, especially for this country girl!  We also received coupons as a gift for coming to be able to come back to a full show at a later time.  I'm hoping we can attend!  The theater was beautiful too. Afterwards we stopped by a new Arkansas Visitors Center and spent some time browsing all the brochures to see if there was anywhere new we wanted to try and visit this year.  Then the children went to Kid's Club and Youth, then we all went to church.

Thursday we started school day with a read aloud, then we dived into History, Science, and Math.  After lunch the girls continued with history while Logan worked on Language.  Then the girls worked on language and writing.  I've got to get everyone back to doing the same subjects at the same time.  Everyone just working on random subjects is too confusing for me!  Savannah was glad to have her new computer up and going so she can use it some in school. In geography Lillian made a map of the USA and hung it on her wall above her desk. After school Shane had tutoring and the girls had art lessons.  They are still working on portraits, I didn't get any pictures this time.  They are both doing a great job though!

Friday was kinda a hectic day.  We started the morning with an early therapy appointment for Logan.  We are just starting back, so the appointment took about 2 hours.  While we were there a nearby large church that has always been one of the cornerstones of our community burned down..it was a complete loss..so very sad.  We could see all the smoke and the fire trucks going back and forth while they were reloading with water.  Afterwards we went to the library for a little while.  I discussed some calendar changes with the children while we were there and they checked out a few books.  We then ran an errand to a nearby town, then came back for Art class.  They made leather bracelets.  They used leather stamps and designed it however they wanted too.  Lillian stamped the teacher's finger...I felt so bad!  It bled...but the teacher took it in stride!  It took awhile to work through all the children, so everyone had lots of visiting time.  That is so good for then all to get to visit with one another, I am very blessed to be a part of this wonderful homeschool group.  Archery was cancelled for the evening so we then got to go home for the night! It was good to have a night at home!  Logan and Savannah got haircuts, Logan wanted a different style and Savannah wanted her bangs back.  Lillian has decided she is going to grow her hair out like Crystal Gayle's, so no haircut for her!

Lillian is covering her eyes after the stamped finger incident!

Saturday Shane had to leave the house at 3:30 a.m. to get to an in-service on time.  The kids and I slept in, then I cooked a big breakfast.  I took the kids over to visit with Meme and Papa while I ran to the grocery store to stock up on a few essentials.  They are predicting bad weather for several days next week, of course they predicted it for today too and it didn't happen.  However, if I didn't go get some things you know it would freeze us in or something!  So now at least I have peace of mind that we have everything we need if it does happen!  This afternoon we are all just taking it easy. I plan on starting our evening read aloud of Narnia tonight.  We have another big week ahead of us, if the weather doesn't keep us in.

I hope you all had a blessed week!

Jesus said,"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:14

Next week I want to make sure I take my children to Jesus, and that I do not hinder them.  I want to remember to pray for them, take them to church, and read to them Jesus' word.  Please join me in that commitment!
