Week 24
"And after these things He went forth, and saw a publican, named Levi, sitting at the receipt of custom: and He said unto him, follow Me. And he left all, rose up, and followed Him." Luke 5:27-28
That last part has me thinking this week. Levi left ALL, stood up, and followed Jesus. To learn and to do the work of the Lord he left everything he had. What should that mean for us, today? What do I need to do to better follow Jesus, and better do his work. Do I have things that get in the way? Do I devote enough time to learning about Jesus? Do I set time apart to do His mighty work?
This week was not a typical week. I would not classify this as a great week in our homeschool. I'm still feeling overwhelmed about the many items on our weekly list of things to get done. We did not get much book work done, at all. We did have some good experiences, and we did learn this week. Some of what we learned were hard lessons, especially for one child in particular. It is so hard not being able to fix things for my older children. They are getting to that age where feelings are a lot more complicated, kisses from mom doesn't always make the tears stop now. Children are not always kind, especially to us strange homeschoolers. We are different. I am proud of the kind of different we are. We show kindness to others, we try to include everyone, we Love the Lord Jesus and try to remember what He would want us to do. I'm not saying we are perfect, by no means, we are rude and fussy at times. We make mistakes, but for the most part we try our best to be kind. We also dress conservative, and not in the pricey name brand clothing. We don't wear lots of makeup. We stand out. I hope we show the light of Jesus. I hope that my children will always remember that it isn't other people we need to try and impress, but we do need to show them love. I hope they remember to be what Jesus wants them to be, I hope they are always kind and have courage. I hope they know how wonderful they each are, and how proud I am of each of them. And more importantly, I hope they know how proud Jesus is of them when they stand up for His teachings and when they do their best to follow His path.
Monday- We had to have an all day Home Ec. day! We had lots of chores to catch up on, and we had to get ready for bad weather. We spent the day cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, and winterizing the outside animals. That afternoon Savannah worked on decorating a clock for her room and Lillian went on a lego building frenzy! Logan read a book and worked on organizing his room. That evening we had music.
Tuesday we woke up to snow! Everything closed down, except the school Shane teaches at. It is quite a bit further North of us and they did not get much snow. However, Shane could not get through the roads, so he took the day off. We played in the snow, had hot chocolate, read some good books, and just tried to stay warm.
Wednesday we woke up to really cold temperatures! It was 5 degrees! We did not go down to the classroom. It does not have a great heater yet. So, we had morning school in the house. We got out books on butterflies and birds to read up on for our butterfly garden we are going to make. We got out some seed magazines to go through and find some flowers, shrubs, or trees we might want to plant in our garden. We also had Bible, a read aloud, and played Chinese Checkers. We then had lunch and then headed out to therapy. Lillian tried to get Logan's picture at therapy, but he was almost to quick for her. We decided to stay home from kids club and youth. Arkansas is having quite an outbreak of flu, and our immune systems are not completely recovered from our month of sickness. Plus, it was still very cold!
Thursday we went to Texarkana. My class at church is sponsoring a Pizza and Movie night at church later this month, so I needed to go find a good movie for that event. I also needed to go to the health food store and pick up some medicine. After we were finished with our errands we took a field trip with some homeschool friends to the Discovery Place Museum. They were having an exhibit on dinosaurs and we wanted to see it. However, all the children spent way more time with the interactive exhibits than they did looking at the dinosaur artifacts!
Friday we got up and tended to animals, had breakfast, packed a lunch, and headed out the door for a long day. We started in therapy. Logan is doing well being back in therapy. I worked with both girls, Savannah is writing a book report on a Gutsy Girls book she read. Lillian worked on writing, reading, and some math. We left therapy and headed over to the park to have our picnic lunch. Then we went to art class. This art class was student lead. He taught the children how to draw a basic human figure using the Manga style of Japanese Comic book art. Then they all played pictionary. They had a blast. We left there to go straight to archery. Everyone is improving and it is getting closer to competition time. We went out to eat. We ate out entirely too much this week! We have to work on that. We got home really late and crashed.
Saturday morning we got up early and got Shane off to a men's breakfast at church. Then there was a 4H sharp shooters meeting. The rest of the day we just tried to get caught up on some chores and rest! Lillian painted a little bit. I worked on organizing the classroom a little bit.
Today it is 66 degrees outside and we are under a Tornado Watch. So this week we went from 5 degrees and snow to 66 degrees and tornadoes! Talk about crazy Arkansas weather! You just never know what the weather will do here!
I am hoping for this next week we will get a bit more classroom work done, and hopefully get to stay home a bit more. Looking ahead at the calendar, I'm not sure that is going to happen though! I hope you all had a blessed week, and your week ahead is full of love and happiness!
