Week 5
We had such a busy week! It was such a good week though! We just finished week 5 of our homeschool year. Everyone is progressing well, keeping caught up on lessons, and busy with extracurricular activities!
Sunday was just a typical Sunday for us, we had church, lunch with my parents, visited Shane's mom at the nursing home, had an hour or two of rest time before heading back to Sunday evening services.
Monday was labor day. We started the day by going to the fair grounds to work on our 4H booth with our group leaders. Both the booths turned out super great!
All the kids did a great job helping. Logan stayed home with Shane, he wasn't feeling quite up to snuff.
After we finished with the fair booths, we went home and picked up Dad and Logan and headed to my parent's house for a Labor Day Lunch. We always have a great time at Meme's and Papa's!
Later that evening we concentrated on getting Lillian's rabbits to their new hutches. We should be expecting babies soon and needed to get the male and female in different pens.
Tuesday was fair entry day. The children gathered all their items and we headed to the fair to enter them.
They all did a great job entering their items and waiting patiently in line. It took us a long time to enter all our items!
Tuesday afternoon we started a pretty big art project in school, so it took the rest of the school day. We are painting a small house/structure in any fashion they choose.
Tuesday evening we had an unexpected visit from some friends, so we visited with them for a while. It is always wonderful to have people visit just because! We also were practicing our waiting patiently skills again, we ordered the kids a new play set and it was supposed to arrive today. We were about to give up on it, but we finally got the call to go pick it up.
It arrived in two huge boxes. The children wanted to put it together right then, but it was too close to dark to start on it. So it would have to wait.
Wednesday was a good school day. We worked hard all day in school and completed all of our subjects but one. We had to leave a little earlier than the end of our school day because Logan started an after school youth program today at 3. He had a good time. There was only 3 other guys there with him this week because it was fair week, but they still had a good time.
After we picked him up we went back to the fair to see how our entries did. They all received 1st place on everything the entered except 1 thing, and that was my fault. I thought they only needed 3 fresh fruits from our pear trees, but now they need 5. The kids also went over to inspect the Beekeepers booth and learn about honey bees.
We left the fair and went to church. Wednesdays we have a church family potluck at 6pm and then church at 7pm. When we got home we got out our telescope to look at the "corn moon." It was a big beautiful full moon. We also were supposed to be able to see Neptune close by the moon, however the moon was so bright we couldn't look at the stars through our telescope. We did find what we believe to have been Neptune, with just our eyes, I promised more star gazing when we don't have a bright full moon.
Thursday was another great day in school. We finished all of our subjects. We went and tended to the animals at my parent's farm because they were camping. Lillian made a bottle volcano in her science. She pretended the lava was burning her as it erupted..silly kid!
Thursday evening I had my student I tutor for a little while, then we started constructing the new swing set.
Very excited children!

Not so excited Dad!
We did not get it finished...so the wait continued.
Friday was a beautiful day! The weather was perfect for the start of our Exploring Nature with Children curriculum. This first week of September we talked about seeds and the four main ways they travel and why it is important for them to travel away from the mother plant. Then we hit the door to go be in nature. We stopped first at my parents farm to tend to the animals then we headed up to the lake to spend some time in nature. The children looked for seeds, cooked hotdogs over the fire, and went fishing with Meme and Papa, observed a cane rattle snake (safely from inside the car) and watched a tiny caterpillar. It was a great day!

We came home and worked more on our art project of painting the buildings to end out our Friday school day. Dad had to work the Gideon Booth this night at the fair, so we headed back to the fair to look at all the entries and eat in the fair kitchen.
Saturday we devoted to putting together the new play equipment. It took all day! But we finally got it finished and the children played on it the rest of the afternoon.
Now we are back to Sunday, we had another great day at church and visiting all the grandparents. We also went to the fair barn to pick up our entrees and the exciting fair checks! It was a great week.
