Week 8-International Homeschool Spirit Week
It was a tough week this week. Every morning we had trouble getting up and getting our chores done and to school on time. We have also had more fussing and bickering than normal. Some weeks are like that.
Monday we started the day good. We spent the morning at the park with some friends we haven't gotten to spend much time with lately. They took care of getting a ticket for Logan while we were gone camping so we would not miss the deadline. Now that Logan is doing more things without me, he has to learn to keep me updated on deadlines and upcoming events with his after school youth group! I am very thankful for our friends that did that for us! I did not get any pictures of the kids playing, I spent time visiting too! We went home and worked through school work. Everyone did 4 drawings from different How to Draw books. Lillian did a project on earthquakes, she made a "town" out of blocks and then caused an earthquake of different magnitudes to see the effects on her town. Everyone worked hard through the rest of their subjects. Monday after lunch Logan started to not feel so well. We also started having a yellow jacket infestation in our living room. We went ahead and went to music and I went to the women's bible study at my church. However I did not get to stay, I had to go pick up Logan. When Logan gets sick, his sister's kinda go into panic mode, they worry that we will have to leave and stay at the hospital for awhile. Our pastor said a prayer with Logan, and all the ladies that were at the bible study said a prayer also. About and hour after we got home, the fever went away. I'm very thankful for my church family, prayers work, God still works in our lives. The girls calmed down too.
Tuesday was a bad day. We woke up to two dead rabbits. The puppy and our older dog tore into the pen sometime during the night and killed both Creme d' Argent bunnies. It was quite a horrible thing to wake up to. I have no idea why the dogs did this, they don't mess with the other bunnies at all. It was a very emotional morning for us all, but especially to Savannah. We gathered ourselves and went to have morning school, when we got back to the house our entire living room was full of yellow jackets. Savannah and I are both allergic to wasp...I closed the bedroom door and hung a sheet on the kitchen door to keep them contained to the living room and then we went back to stay in the classroom. We worked on all our subjects and got caught up on a few things. Dad picked up some home foggers and wasp spray on his way home and went and set them off in the house. We went and grabbed some pizza for supper and watched a movie in the classroom until we could go back in the house.
Wednesday I decided to have a video school day at the house. I needed to clean up the dead wasp and wash everything. I don't really like dvd schooling all the time, I prefer to be more hands on, but sometimes it is a life saver! We have some Rock N Learn DVD's, Sheep Snacks, and Drive Thru History. (we really love Drive Thru History!)
I found Logan and Lillian playing checkers, they were supposed to be doing chores. Wednesday afternoon the children had Youth and Kids Club. I went to walk at the park. I needed a quite moment. I could tell that Autumn is on its way, even though the temperatures that day gave no hint of fall! Afterwards we went to potluck and church.
Since it was Homeschool Spirit Week, and up until this point in the week we were having a bad week, I decided that we would go on a field trip with one of the Homeschool Groups we are affiliated with. So Thursday morning we got up early and headed out the door. We were going to visit Tiny Town and the Arkansas Alligator Farm in Hot Springs. I was glad we went, we needed a field trip! Tiny Town was quite amazing. Everything was hand carved or hand made with natural elements. It is a third generation business, the grandfather started it in his garage and it grew and grew. There was everything you could think of, a town, country side, farms, Indian villages, coal mines in mountains, lighthouses by the sea, Jesus on the mountain(like in Brazil), it was really amazing. There were also hundreds of lights and moving parts.

After we left Tiny Town we headed up the road to the Arkansas Alligator Farm. The farm is also a three generation business. It is now run by brothers, the one that gave us our tour and information is a retired high school basketball coach, I guess he decided alligators are not much different from adolescents!! He had to use some of those basketball skills at feeding time. He told us about the time he got bit, and we got to watch a video of it. He is a brave soul! They had a petting zoo with donkeys, emus, sheep, and goats. We saw baby alligators, big alligators, alligator snapper turtles, turkeys, ducks, wolves, a mountain lion that was ridiculously large, a few monkeys. They also had a skeleton of a "merman." It was creepy ya'll. I had to come home and do some research on it because they had all these news articles posted up around it about it's discovery. I found out it is called the Fiji Mermaid, you should research it, CREEPY! Logan has no fear, so he held a quite large baby alligator, the girls not so much. Lillian got to feed an alligator, almost fell into the pit, but the dear man caught her(so thankful God!). I don't have a picture, because it was blurred from when I dropped the phone to get her!
It was so amazing how still these alligators can be! They seriously looked fake or like statues until he got close with the chicken, then they were lightening quick!
After calming down from the nearly loosing Lillian in the alligator pit, we loaded up and headed to Arkadelphia. Since the Tuesday morning disaster of dead show bunnies, I had been looking for another set of show bunnies. I finally found a lady that was willing to meet us in Arkadelphia and show us what she had, they were not Creme d' Argent, but Savannah liked them too. These are Jersey Wooly Rabbits. They are fluffy!
We then drove home and got the rabbits unloaded. We turned off the air conditioners and put them in a cage in the living room. We had to go to 4H and I didn't want to take the chance of the dogs getting these rabbits. So we got them settled and went to town for 4H. We had our meeting and discussed what we wanted to do for the next upcoming months and then we painted rocks and hid them in the park for others to find.
Friday we headed out the door early to go to the library. The children all had books they needed to return and I had a meeting with Logan's case worker. We are so thankful for Ms. Lori! Our life would be so much more stressful if we did not have her as an advocate for Logan!
I completely forgot to do our Nature Study this week. We will do two lessons next week to stay on track. Friday afternoon I had an eye appointment. I have been having horrible headaches. I needed glasses. So, we ordered my glasses and went by Academy and then to eat at McAlister's Deli, kids get to dine in for .99 cents! (That was a blessing after having to buy glasses!)
Friday evening we received some good things in the mail. Savannah is allergic to artificial food coloring. I was once able to buy invisible Koolaid from our Walmart. However they stopped carrying it, I thought maybe it was no longer available. Turns out I can still order it! I also received the final piece of Lillian's dyslexia therapy, so we will be starting that next week.
It was a crazy week, and very hard at times. Looking back I have to say a special prayer for all the wonderful people in my life that help me out, pray for us, and even just the common strangers that God puts in our lives when we need them to be there. I am so thankful for everyone that helped us out in some small way this week, I couldn't do this without you guys!

We also stopped Thrusday and picked up our pumpkins. We do not celebrate Halloween, but we do pick a fun pumpkin art project to do every year in the fall.We moved the rabbits outside and decided the dogs have to be kept put up unless someone is outside to watch them.
