Spotlight on Logan!
Logan is 12 years old and in the 7th grade.
He is a very brave young man,
I can't believe he is going to be
a teenager in a few months. He
does really well in school, and
he is very active with other
activities outside of our regular
homeschool stuff. He faces
challenges every day, but rarely
complains. He makes me a better
person, and he always knows how to
cheer me up!
Here is a look at his7th grade curriculum for this year
Math-Principles of Mathematics JR High Year 1 from Master Books
History-From Adam to Us from Notgrass History
Language Arts- Essentials in Writing and Essentials in Literature with Matthew Stephens
Science-Exploring Creation with Zoology Land Animals of the Sixth Day by Fulbright
Elective-He chose to concentrate on a specific time period in history for his first elective. He is making Greco-Roman warfare items with duct tape and doing a lapbook on Ancient Rome.
Logan also participates in some subjects we do together.
Logan chose to raise a Dwarf Nigerian Goat for his Agri Science this year. He named him Hezekiah. He is the funniest goat I have ever been around and very sweet. We are looking for a Dwarf Nigerian Doe, but we have not been able to find one close enough for us to go and get.
Logan is a musician. He plays the violin quite well. He has started learning how to play the mandolin. He likes to play older country music, bluegrass, and church hymns. He amazes me with his music. We are planning on taking him to a Bluegrass Music Festival later this fall.
He also likes to cook. He has been learning Dutch Oven Cooking. We have a state park nearby that offers classes in dutch oven cooking. We went and bought him a small dutch oven and a cook book from there. He has made cowboy beans and hungarian goulash. He wants to try a dessert next. We will be going camping soon, so maybe he can whip us up something tasty one day there. He also likes to cook indoors. He received a Harry Potter cook book as a gift and has made sugar mice, beef pies, Lankenshire hotpot...it was all tasty. He also can make some mean brownies!
Logan is also in 4H. He has two groups he attends. One is our main group called The Nature Seekers. We meet once a month. He also attends a STEM group, it meets just once a quarter. He has learned a little about computer coding and made catapults. He also attends some 4H workshops. In the last workshop he was on a team and each team built a solar powered car and then each team raced. Logan's team won!
Logan also joins us when we go on field trips with homeschool groups. Logan is very active in our church. He has joined a Youth group at another church for an after school program on Wednesdays from 3-5. That activity starts today, hopefully he will enjoy it. He will be joining a TRAP team later this month through the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. We are also considering an Archery program, but we have not made up our minds on it yet.
