20/21 School Year Week 5
We had a good strong week in school. It is a year that we will never forget for sure. This week here in SW Arkansas we had a tropical storm/hurricane make it all the way here. It was not as bad for us as they predicted, but many parts of our state had bad weather and lots of damage.
Sunday:
We had home church and then lunch at Meme and Papa's. We spent the rest of the day just cleaning, doing laundry, and getting ready for the week.
Monday:
We practiced our letter writing and wrote letters to our cousins.
We had read aloud time, we are almost finished with Grandfather Frog. We started on something light and funny, when we finish we will start on books with more depth.
We had Write Shop. We are working on writing with descriptive language. Everyone described their pet.
We updated our Arkansas State Park Passports.
Everyone worked on their PACE workbooks.
We had our zoom with friends, which is the highlight of our Mondays. It is a great way to start the week!
Tuesday:
We had read aloud time.
Logan and Lillian worked on their PACE workbooks.
Savannah had ASL class.
We took a field trip to the Conway Cemetery State Park. We went because it is the burial place of James Sevier Conway, the first governor of Arkansas. It fit right in with our history lessons. It led to many discussion about the advancement of health care, there were lots of babies and children in the cemetery. There were beautiful headstones. Savannah and Logan had to each pick a person to research and write an essay about. Lillian had to do some research on the time period.
We stopped by the Texarkana Library on the way home and got us a library card and checked out some books. The library is so much bigger, with many more options than our local library. We are excited to add this resource to our homeschool!
Wednesday:
Today in school the children all had a lesson in budgeting and spending. They went with me to purchase new furniture. We ended up with some nice items that we could afford.
We then went to visit Meme and Papa. The students where Dad work started back today, and we were not sure how that was going to go with Covid19, so we wanted to visit in case we had to quarantine soon.
Logan took a practice Driver's License written exam. He is doing really well. It is almost time to schedule the real deal!
Savannah worked on her ASL.
Lillian worked on her Home Ec. She is learning about child care.
Everyone did some reading.
Wednesday night was Collide Church. Logan ended up having to miss it, we were all trying to get ready for the hurricane. Savannah was able to attend via zoom.
Thursday:
Hurricane Day! It mostly just rained all day long with periods of high winds, but luckily nothing major here.
We had read aloud.
Everyone worked in their PACE workbooks.
Savannah did ASL.
Logan worked on Driver's Ed.
Lillian had Home Ec.
We updated our AR State Park Passports. We have visited 17 of our state parks, we actually have visited more but the children don't remember them. So we will go to them again.
Friday:
We all did our Bible studies today.
In History everyone did their papers from the cemetery trip.
Lillian started reading her book on the Civil War Ironclads.
Everyone worked in their PACE workbooks
Lillian did some dyslexia/dysgraphia/dyscalcula therapy.
Savannah worked on ASL.
Logan worked on Driver's Ed.
We had Write Shop. Today each child picked a famous person and described them.
Friday night was the Teen Cheesy Movie Night. My teens were not able to attend, so we picked a movie to watch as a family. It ended up being probably more cheesy than the one at the Teen Movie Night. We watched "Matinee" with John Goodman. It was hilariously cheesy!
Saturday:
Our new furniture came in! The kids were so excited, they don't remember us ever buying new furniture. They only remember my resale shopping. I'm thinking they must have been to young to remember when we had all new furniture..because you know that was when Shane and I first got married and before children became so expensive!! We got a new fridge, new kitchen table, and a new couch. I'm excited too.
Tonight we are going to buddy watch a movie with our friends!
