Savannah-7th Grade

Savannah will be starting the 7th grade soon! She will officially be entering what is considered Junior High School.


I'm not sure I can adequately describe this wonderful woman child.  She is absolutely brilliant, stunningly beautiful, and has such a wonderful wit about her. 


She is my go to girl.  I could not make it many days without her help. She does way more than her share, and rarely complains about the extra work.  I am super proud of her, and doubly blessed to be her mom.


So, what's her plans for her first year of Junior High?  Here it is:


English: She will be using "Rockets, Radar, and Robotics" from EIW to learn about all things techie and learn to write essays.  She will also use " Junior High Writing Prompts" from Sharon Watson to improve her style and writing voice.


Math: She will be using Glencoe Pre-Algebra.


Science: We will be doing Science together as a family. We will be using Creation Science from Christian Kids Explore. Savannah loves science, as long as there are lots of experiments!


History: We will be doing History together as a family as well. We will be using Mystery of History Vol. 1. Savannah will complete the middle school assignments.


Now for her electives:


She will continue to self teach herself piano. She uses Alfred's basic piano books.


 She will do all the experiments in this Chemistry experiment kit.


She will also learn some basic typing and coding.


She will be working on an advanced Junior high plan. I'm excited to see what she will accomplish this year.

Week 4 in Review

I really can't believe it is September!  This was our 4th week in school. We still are not doing every subject every day.  What we typically try to do is one day we do our morning subjects of Meteorology, Bible, Geography, Art, Math, and Language Arts, and then the next day do our afternoon subjects of PE/Health, History, Spelling for Savannah, Reading for Lillian, Logan's Elective, Writing, and Science.  We do this until we are familiar with our new curriculum and are more independent so I can divide my time up where I am most needed. We do this until after fair week. For some reason we are never able to get full days of school in until after fair.  I use to fight this and get all stressed out about not having full days...now we just roll with it.  We still end the year right where we need to be, and we get to enjoy getting started back in school instead of it being stressful. Summer Week 9

I didn't keep day to day records this week, but here are the highlights. We had church on church days. 😊 We celebrated an Adoption of some friends of ours. They make such a lovely family, and we will continue to pray for their growth and bonding. Lillian did a couple of science experiments.  She made a tornado in a bottle and an ocean in a bottle. Dad had help from the kids this week with the barn. They finished enclosing it.  All they lack now is making the doors. Lillian, Buddy, and I went to the park one morning. We picked a theme for our homeschool year.  It is going to be "Having Fun in Arkansas."  We are planning to try and visit quite a few state parks that we have not visited before. Week 26

Deuteronomy 31:8 "The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.  Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." I know Jesus is always with me.  I know He will never leave me.  I take great comfort in that knowledge.  However I often forget the last part of that verse, to not be afraid.  Even more often, I forget to not be discouraged.  I have found myself discouraged a lot this week, and even some pretty scary events have happened this week, one of which is not my story to tell.  We are struggling.  I pray we all find our footing, and joy again soon. Last Saturday when we went to pick up the kids from Meme and Papa's, Logan had made knickerbocker glory from his Harry Potter cookbook.  It was delicious! He did an amazing job!
